I am a researcher / best practices evangelist at Backbase, where I collect and share best software development practices related to the Backbase portal platform. Before joining Backbase, I worked as an assistant professor and researcher at the Technical University in Eindhoven, and as a researcher at CWI in Amsterdam. In my work, I aim at bridging software design research and practice, trying to get best of both worlds. My primary interest is in improving early stages of software desing and in bringing human aspects in software architecture to make the resulting system more human oriented. My emphasis is on design: I build experimental interfaces and systems that explore new forms of design and interaction.
I have developed numerous practical software solutions and tools, with different technologies, and actively participated in projects in industry. I am an experienced Java developer, and the main developer behind three innovative open-source projects, the service middleware platform AMICO (http://amico.sourceforge.net), the software design tool Sketchify (http://sketchify.sourceforge.net), and its follower Sketchlet (http://sketchlet.sourceforge.net).
